Karole’s passion has always been baking. She grew up around the bakery world and always loved making things for other people. When she got married, she also learned a lot from her husband’s grandmother, who showed her how to make everything from scratch, for freshness and flavor.
Karole spent more than 20 years building a career in the medical practice, but one day, she knew it was time for a change. So she left the practice behind and took the leap to start her own bakery. What she didn’t realize was how many people would immediately fall in love with her baking!
Now, she runs Old Fashioned Dough Company, where she continues to make everything from scratch every day. She often starts at 4 AM to make dough and greet her new and returning customers in person! That’s real dedication—and you can taste it.

Our team is always ready to indulge in fresh pastries and bread! So we made a trip to Branson West to get a taste of these made-from-scratch treats for ourselves.
Even though the team was busy, we received a warm welcome from both Karole and head baker Chris. Chris told us he loves interacting with everyone who comes in. And between his hospitality and Karole’s passion, it’s easy to see why people love the atmosphere and the bread.
With such an extensive menu, we knew we couldn’t try just one thing! So we loaded up on bread and pastries to see which one was our favorite. Honestly? We liked every single one!
We started with a soft loaf of jalapeno bread, perfect for pulling apart. The top was crunchy, but the inside was so fluffy and had jalapeno flavor in every bite.
The daily special was the blueberry cinnamon roll, so of course, we had to try one. Not only was it huge and heavy, but it was covered in a delicious creamy glaze! We would get this one over and over again!
And since apple fritters are a local favorite, we couldn’t leave without ordering one of those, too. It was big enough to share and absolutely covered in more of that wonderful icing! But the best part was the apple bits in every single bite—wow!
We definitely discovered a new appreciation for fresh-baked bread!
