Branson horseback riding comes down to two easy choices: a guided trail ride through the hills at Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides in Branson, or a scenic canyon ride at Dogwood Canyon Nature Park in Lampe. Both welcome beginners, and both are riding this fall. If some of your group would rather watch than ride, Dolly Parton’s Stampede and The Shepherd of the Hills put horses center stage. Below you’ll find ages, prices, what to wear, and three rentals that make a comfortable home base.

Where can you go horseback riding in Branson?

Two stables in the Branson area offer guided horseback tours to the public. They differ in setting, price, and age rules, so the right pick depends on who is riding and how long you want to stay in the saddle. The good news: Branson horseback riding stays close to town, so you can ride in the morning and still catch a show that night.

Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides: Branson’s Closest Trail Ride

Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides sits at 6549 MO-376 in Branson, a short drive from the 76 Strip. The outfitter welcomes riders age 7 and older, and no experience is required. It describes its horses as tame and gentle for riders of all ages, and its trails as shaded.

One detail makes this ride different: the route crosses The Shepherd of the Hills set. Guest reviews and local guides note that the same horses appear in the outdoor drama there. Reviewers describe friendly guides who fit each horse to the rider’s experience and give a quick refresher on riding basics.

Rides are commonly described as about an hour long. The outfitter does not post prices online, so call (417) 545-0061 to confirm current rates, ride length, and open times. Google lists hours of 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily (checked September 24, 2026).

Dogwood Canyon Nature Park: Horseback Tours in Lampe

Dogwood Canyon Nature Park is a 10,000-acre nature park in Lampe, known for trout streams, waterfalls, and hand-built bridges. Its One-Hour Ride explores ridges, hollows, and old logging roads. The ride starts at $55 per rider, plus park admission.

For a longer day, the Little Indian Lunch Ride lasts about two and a half hours, including a lunch break. It costs $140 per person plus admission and is available through October 30 (checked September 24, 2026).

The rules are firm here. Riders must be at least 8 years old (12 for the lunch ride), at least 48 inches tall, and no more than 250 pounds. The stable weighs riders before they mount, and each rider handles their own horse. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and arrive 30 minutes early to sign the waiver. Riders under 18 wear helmets and ride with a companion over 18.

Park admission also covers the Mill, the Canyon Grill Restaurant, the Nature & Conservation Center, and miles of trails, so plan to stay after your ride.

Still deciding? Choose Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides for a younger group, since riders can start at age 7, or for a quick ride close to the 76 Strip. Choose Dogwood Canyon if you want a full day in a private canyon, or if your teens are ready for the longer lunch ride.

Where can you watch horses perform in Branson?

Not everyone in the family will want to ride. Branson’s equestrian shows let them enjoy the horses from a comfortable seat, and younger kids who miss the age cutoff still get their horse fix.

Dolly Parton’s Stampede: Trick Riders and the Horse Walk

Dolly Parton’s Stampede, at 1525 W. 76 Country Blvd., pairs a four-course feast with an arena show full of horses and trick riders. Before the show, the Horse Walk lets guests stroll past the stables and meet the horses up close. The venue says guests can arrive as early as an hour and 15 minutes before showtime, so come early with your camera ready. The arena is indoors, which makes the Stampede a dependable backup when weather cancels a trail ride. Our complete Stampede guide covers tickets, the menu, and seating.

The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama

The Shepherd of the Hills stages its outdoor drama at the Old Mill Theatre with more than 90 actors, plus horses, sheep, mules, and donkeys. This fall it plays Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. through October. General tickets are $34.95 for adults and $19.95 for children ages 4 to 12, plus tax (checked September 24, 2026).

Book a morning trail ride at Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides and an evening at the drama, and you’ll see the same Ozark hillside from the saddle and from the stands. For the full homestead story, read our Shepherd of the Hills guide.

Branson Horseback Riding FAQ

Where can you go horseback riding in Branson?

Two guided options serve the Branson area. Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides, at 6549 MO-376 in Branson, welcomes riders age 7 and older with no experience required. Dogwood Canyon Nature Park in Lampe offers a One-Hour Ride and a longer Little Indian Lunch Ride through its private canyon. Both stables pair riders with guides and gentle horses. Call each stable before you drive out, because rides can fill up or be canceled in extreme weather.

How old do kids need to be for a trail ride near Branson?

It depends on the stable. Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides accepts riders age 7 and older. Dogwood Canyon’s One-Hour Ride requires riders to be at least 8 years old and 48 inches tall, and its Little Indian Lunch Ride starts at age 12. At Dogwood Canyon, each rider handles their own horse, and riders under 18 wear helmets and ride with a companion over 18. Younger kids can still meet horses at the Stampede’s Horse Walk.

How much do horseback tours in Branson cost?

Dogwood Canyon’s One-Hour Ride starts at $55 per rider, and its Little Indian Lunch Ride costs $140 per person. Both require park admission on top of the ride price. Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides does not post prices online, so call (417) 545-0061 for current rates. These prices were checked on September 24, 2026, and can change, so confirm the cost when you book your ride.

What should you wear for trail rides in the Ozarks?

Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Dogwood Canyon requires both, and they protect your legs and feet on any trail ride. Leave sandals, flip-flops, and dangling accessories at your rental. Riders under 18 at Dogwood Canyon must wear helmets, which the stable requires for every young rider. Bring water, sunscreen, and a light layer, and leave valuables locked in the car before you mount up.

Can you go horseback riding in Branson in the fall?

Yes, Branson horseback riding continues through the fall. Ozark Mtn. Trail Rides lists daily hours of 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Dogwood Canyon offers its One-Hour Ride, with the longer Little Indian Lunch Ride available through October 30. The Shepherd of the Hills outdoor drama, with its horses, plays through October.
