How do you plan a farm-to-fork dinner at your rental?
Start with the calendar. In October, the easiest shopping windows are Tuesday afternoon at Branson Landing and Saturday morning in Hollister or Forsyth. McKenna Family Farm fills in Wednesday through Sunday.
Next, shop for the week you actually have. Bring reusable bags and a cooler for the car, and build meals around what vendors have that day. A late-season haul of tomatoes, squash, sourdough and honey covers a dinner and a breakfast. Add a Forsyth stop if you want farm-raised meat for the grill. Staying a full week? Shop twice: Tuesday at Branson Landing for the first half of the trip, then Saturday in Hollister or Forsyth for the weekend.
Keep the first night simple. Roast the squash and tomatoes, warm the sourdough, and save the honey or apple butter for the next morning’s toast.
